Fabrication of Low-cost Artificial Tibia Bone Using Polyurethane Rigid Foam and Epoxy Resin for Orthopedic Surgical Skills Training

Introduction. Skills training using artificial bones became more critical in response to the Orthopedic surgical restriction caused by COVID-19 pandemic. To cut expenses of buying commercial bones, Ilizarov Limb Reconstruction Service has decided fabricate its for skills training. Objective. determine if resin-coated polyurethane (PU) rigid foam is a suitable, low-cost alternative bone. Methods. Tibiae were fabricated PU coated with epoxy resins. Three randomly selected tibia, and one standard tibia was subjected drilling drill bits K-wires. The time penetration cortex three segments tibiae recorded seconds. An actual circular external fixator applied. cost production calculated. Results. Each costs ₱456.93. mean 2.15s 3.37s bone 3.41s 3.57s able withstand application corticotomy. Conclusion. suitable affordable simulation model training.
